A special oak and mahogany 8 day longcase clock with inlaid panels ebony and box wood stringing, with a swan neck pediment, circa 1820

James Barber(famous York silver smith)  and William Whitwell were silver smith , jewellers and watch and clock makers  working at Coney Street, York (1815-1822)

Longcase clock  by James Barber and William Whitwell

A special oak and mahogany 8 day longcase clock with inlaid panels ebony  and box wood stringing, with a swan neck pediment and brass paterie, rounded pilasters to the hood ,the trunk has canted corners with inlay to the door ,sat on a square plinth with a raised panel and conforming inlay, white painted break arch dial with Roman  numerals,
matching blued  steel hands ,date and seconds dial with makers name to the arch ,the movement is of eight day duration and strikes the hour on a bell.

James Barber and William Whitwell were silver smiths , jewellers and  watch and clock makers  working at  Coney Street, York (1815-1822)  which then became Barber Cattle & North at 25 Coney Street the plain dial with the above names in the arch is unique to them and stood in their shop,
James Barber was Lord Mayor of York in 1833
